SEALS 2014 telah menjadi ajang pembelajaran yang nyata untuk mengawal isu-isu internasional sebagai mahasiswa untuk menjadi agent of change.”

Sobat unjkita.com, kali ini ada agenda yang gak kalah seru untuk kamu lewatkan lho. Agenda yang berhasil sukses di tahun 2014, akan diulang lagi pada awal tahun 2016, yaitu SEALS (South East Asian Leaders Summit)  yang diprakarsai oleh Nusantara Young Leaders atau yang lebih dikenal dengan singkatan NYL.

Nah, NYL ini adalah sebuah NGO yang terdiri dari pemuda yang berasal dari seluruh negara ASEAN. Adanya NYL ini untuk mendiskusikan dan mengakomodasi peningkatan kualitas dan pengembangan kepemimpinan pemuda di lingkup ASEAN. Oia, SEALS pada tahun ini mengusung tema “Rebuilding Youth Diplomacy, Strengthening ASEAN Connectivity”.

      Surabaya, East Java

Surabaya is the second largest city in Indonesia with famous branding “Sparkling Surabaya”. There are many reputable universities here, such as Surabaya Technology Institute (ITS), Airlangga University (UNAIR), Petra University (UK Petra), Ciputra University (UC), Sunan Ampel Islamic State University (UINSA), and many more. Surabaya is also home for people from different ethnics, race, religions, and country. If you are in Surabaya, you will easily find the harmony of diveristy between Arab ethnic in Kampung Arab with Tionghoa ethnic in Kembang Jepun that those location is adjacent.

 Beside of its reputation as “Hero City”, under Mrs. Tri Rismaharini government, Surabaya has also succesfully catched up few prestigious achievements, such as The 2013 Asian Townscape Sector Award from United Nations, Future Government Award 2013 for Asia-Pacific scale, and Socrates Award 2014 as City of The Future.

South East Asia Leaders Summit (2016) will offer you an experience to explore “Sparkling Surabaya” through formal and informal activitiy. So, see you in Surabaya last year, the future leaders of South East Asia!

Nusantara Young Leaders (NYL) believe that every young people thoroughly has their own idea, opinion, even innovation based on their capability to contribute in ASEAN Connectivity issue. We are calling you to speak your voice up in this prestigious youth forum regarding the recent issue of ASEAN. Your essay (4 topics as mentioned above) will be discussed on roundtable discussion, pointed as an influenced consideration by stake holders, and placed as main foothold of SEAL Declaration.

Selain itu ada SEAL Declaration 

Nusantara Young Leaders (NYL) with ASEAN Youth Centre as the strategic partnership will invite you, the future leaders of South East Asia, to compose a declaration to embrace youth commitment in ASEAN Community blueprint. Furthermore, all delegates will be also invited in any NYL-ASEAN Youth Centre activities to bold youth contribution towards ASEAN Community blueprint

  • Jalesveva Jayamahe Monument

Surabaya is well-known as nusantara maritime symbol since Majapahit Empire. In respect of history of struggle, Jalesveva Jayamahe (in Sansekerta means “Di Laut Kita Berjaya”) monument was built to recall the patriots that Indonesia ancestors are the though sailors that have explored the world. Jalesveva Jayamahe Monument is designed by I Nyoman Nuarta, a Balinese talented craftman, who is working also for the famous statue Garuda Wisnu Kencana. It was officialy inaugurated on 5th December 1996 by ex-president of Indonesia, Mr. Soeharto.

The visualization of Jalesveva Jayamahe Monument is a medium-naval officer with complete uniform looking far out to the sea, as a strong symbol of confidence and readiness to hoof any wave, even storm to reach nation interest.

South East Asia Leaders Summit (SEAL-S) 2016 will provide you an unforgetable experience to learn Indonesia maritime history that matter to Indonesia contribution towards ASEAN Connectivity through direct visit to Tanjung Perak International Port area.

  • Grahadi Building

Grahadi Building is also one of recommended destinations in Surabaya. It has high historical value because it is Dutch heritage that is still well-maintained. From this building on a tighten day of 9th November 1945, the first governor of Surabaya, instructed “Arek-Arek Suroboyo” to reject England’s ultimatum and decide to war. Since 1991, Surabaya government has officially opened Grahadi building for public, eventhough it has function also as centre of government of East Java.
